Medical mission wrap up

Image
As most medical mission team members have returned home, it brings us to the end of this wonderful journey. We had great time at MCF. There was a lot to learn within the Kenyan community and it was great we could help restore hope and make a change where it was needed most.  If you were unable to attend the medical mission, don’t worry; there will be many mission opportunities in the future. You may see some group members from this trip if you decide to visit Mully Children’s Family in the near future. From Andrew’s concluding announcement: “A big thank you to the team for making this trip a big success. We saw 3,251 patients but more importantly, I hope each of you achieved your goals for this trip. It wasn’t perfect but we will take the learnings and help the next team to improve. I saw God in action, am grateful for everything I have and met some great team members who I can call friends.  This is the last picture I took at MCF. A reminder of what an empty field can b...

Sunday break day!

Image
Sunday was our break day, which meant we got to relax. The team first started the day off with a wonderful church service, where the MCF family sang, dance and taught us many important lessons surrounding Christ. After, the MCF staff took us for a hike on the great Mount Mully. It was a mountain that sat near and in the middle of Yatta and the MCF family. On it sits a large rock, looking as if it was going to fall off the mountain. The trip up to the rock from up to back down took about 2 hours in total. At times for some climbers it was quite terrifying; as you had to climb up steep slopes right next to tall drops off the mountain, with no safety precautions. Don’t worry; we were all able to get back from mount Mully. And when we did, we were treated to an amazing show performed by the MCF students. It included impressive dancing, drumming, acrobatics and martial arts acts. Wednesday will be the last day for much of the team, as they are travelling back to Nairobi.

Our journey so far...

Today was the last medical day of the week. Tomorrow, we have church and a big hike up Mully Mountain!  From Andrew’s report of today: “Thank you for a fantastic day!  As we continued to ramp up, we had 623 registered patients and this was probably the most efficient day. Well done! The crowds arrived mostly in the morning so some teams were able to end the day a little earlier to rest up.“ On top of that, I'd like to thank everyone who has shared wonderful photos and captions. Medical mission trip update!

Image
The medical mission team saw roughly 400 members from the community yesterday; and yet, we will continue to ramp up! Today and Saturday will be big days... In fact, just this Friday morning alone, the wonderful and hard-working triage team was up early before breakfast to get villagers into the medical queue, in which they’ve already lined up at least 300 people!                                         And to answer a question that many of you may have wondering; the experience at MCF has been great. It has educated us on their way of life and their culture; for one, community is huge in the Mully family and it's unity that brings accomplishment. A perfect example of this is the building on the left; it was built in a matter of 2-3 years with nothing other than concrete mix, tiles, and stone and nothing more than a team of men and women. With such relationships and unison, they work incre...

We’ve made it to MCF Kenya!

Image
Yesterday, after a couple long flights, the team safely arrived at Mully Children’s Family in Nairobi, Kenya. The team organized the medical equipment and supplies and travelled for multiple hours until they arrived in Ndalani, with the help of MCF staff to get us settled.  “ The opening salvo was a taste of heaven!  Angelic voices welcoming us home was just beyond our expectations!” -Lorely We would like to thank the Mully Children’s Family for their kind welcome. Upon arrival, an ensemble of children stood before us to provide us many warm welcomes with singing and flowers from the students, from kindergarten to senior ages. Accommodations provided to the medical team included comfortable rooms and well-prepared food, which we are ever so grateful for.  The next morning, we had the opportunity to get a tour of the MCF community to get a better understanding of how things work. We learned the teaching and alumni process for the students at MCF. Many of the staff are...

Final meeting & packing day!

Image
Just two days ago, on Saturday the 9th, all of us in the MCF team had the privilege to get together thanks to Fiona and Ben (And to everyone who was able to prepare and bring food). This was the last time we all met before our big trip to Nairobi, Kenya- less than two weeks away!  During the meetup members put in their efforts to get travel plans sorted, figure out who's doing what in our volunteer groups, and pack up many boxes full of supplies such as sunglasses, clothes, and dental devices; all of which will be extremely useful for our volunteering efforts during our medical mission in Nairobi, Kenya. We're about to embark on a mission that promises to have a profound impact; not only on those we aim to support but also on us, the volunteers. We're not merely carrying supplies- we're delivering hope. See you all soon in Nairobi!
