We’ve made it to MCF Kenya!

Yesterday, after a couple long flights, the team safely arrived at Mully Children’s Family in Nairobi, Kenya. The team organized the medical equipment and supplies and travelled for multiple hours until they arrived in Ndalani, with the help of MCF staff to get us settled.

“ The opening salvo was a taste of heaven!  Angelic voices welcoming us home was just beyond our expectations!” -Lorely

We would like to thank the Mully Children’s Family for their kind welcome. Upon arrival, an ensemble of children stood before us to provide us many warm welcomes with singing and flowers from the students, from kindergarten to senior ages. Accommodations provided to the medical team included comfortable rooms and well-prepared food, which we are ever so grateful for.

The next morning, we had the opportunity to get a tour of the MCF community to get a better understanding of how things work. We learned the teaching and alumni process for the students at MCF. Many of the staff are beneficiaries, in which they have graduated from MCF but continue to be apart of the family staff, ranging from teachers, medical assistants, and most importantly, chefs who can prepare great food!!

Did you know that the MCF community is highly self-sufficient? Their ability to work with one another, from growing their own foods to constructing the housing they live in makes their way of life very accessible and efficient!

“The stay so far has been wonderful. Great to see the Mully grounds and hear so much history… And watching the kids contributing to the beauty of this home. Literally saw two young men make and put up the circles of the arch in this.” -Robin

To say Tuesday was a full day would be an understatement. It was packed. And it was great. We started our tour by walking around the Ndalani site – we saw Jacobs Well, the water treatment facility that provides water to MCF and the surrounding community, the dorms for all the 900 + children, and the fields where all their fresh product is grown. But the highlight of the morning was stopping in at grade 6 and then a grade 10 classroom and being able to sit at the student’s desks and talk with them.

I got to see what it must feel like to be like Brad Pittsurrounded by all the kids vying to spend time with me and ask me questions or show me how great they speak English, their ambitions and hopes for the future. It was very special and extremely humbling.
After lunch, we had a soft opening of the clinic and opened the doors to some of the children on site.  This gave us all a chance to get our feet wet without being completely inundated and also gave us the opportunity to identify what is working well and what was not.  At times it felt a little heavy and insurmountable …… then through God's provision, we got to witness a girl getting a new pair of glasses and glowing. God is good … all the time; and, all the time … God is good!”

Today the team worked hard to set up the medical support that will be provided to the children. Preparations included counting and sorting pills in the pharmacy, as well as setting up workstations for the physicians, optometrists, and dentists.

Finally, a word from Andrew, who has put great effort into organizing and leading the team:

“Thank you for a great start to the 2023 medical trip!  The dry run today went extremely well.  Our triage, medical, optical and pharmacy teams were able to set up and see some children. Our Dental team worked hard and did some amazing repairs to get ready for tomorrow. We should be finished seeing all the children tomorrow and ready for the nearby communities on Th.  Some small tweaks and we will be good to go.  Thank you and well done team!”

The team is most grateful for the support that the MCF community has provided us to fulfill our journey with more to come during our medical mission at Mully Children’s Family!

These are not the only photos of the trip! There are more that you can view through this shared image album which team members’s photos will be uploaded to HERE.
